More than BD100 million will be directed by the Bahraini government to set up three new bridges at Tubli Bay, the GDN reported on Wednesday. The bridges will connect Jurdab to Isa Town, Umm Al Hassam to Sitra and Tubli to Ma'ameer. A floating restaurant and jetties will also be included in the budget for the projects.
Some five kilometres of the land will be purchased by the government and BD112m will be directed for this goal. Between 16 to 18 plots of land will remain with private owners for "special projects", while the remainder will be offered by the Royal Court to investors.
This move came following the publication of a study on Tubli Bay, which was submitted to bahrain's Municipalities and Agriculture Ministry.
It draws a 'red line' demarcating a final size for Tubli Bay at about 13.5 sq/km, from its original size of 25 sq/km.
Tubli Bay is an inshore coastal area situated in the north-east of Bahrain. Manama, the capital city, lies north of the Bay. For the past forty or so years, however, the Bay has been under threat from human activity. Infilling the coast for development has caused the size of the Bay to shrink from 23.5 sq/km in 1956 to 16.1 sq/km in 1996.
